On December 10th I had planned to go to Babies R Us and purchase the rest of the things we needed for the Baby. We were moving kind of slow it was a Saturday after all and my first day of maternity leave (if weekends can count). Around 10:45 am I noticed what I thought might be my water leaking. It didn't full on break so it was pretty confusing. Since I wasn't sure I did a little research online and then went back to bed for a bit. Well you have a 9 month pregnant lady laying in bed she is bound to fall asleep! Sound around 1 I woke up super hungry! I talked Adrian into going to El Polo Loco for lunch and then to babies r us. One problem.... As soon as I got up out of bed it was clear my water was for sure leaking. Since we were mostly hospital ready we called my parents and dropped the girls off over there. We headed on to the hospital to confirm that my water had in fact started to break.
We got to the hospital at 2 pm. It took about 45 minutes to get back into Triage. Once we finally did it was a lot of waiting! I was hooked up to the monitors and there wasn't a lot going on. There were some contractions but they weren't much.... I really had to pay attention to know when they were about to hit. They did a test to determine that it was in fact my water breaking. Which means I wasn't going to leave the hospital without my Baby Girl!! You obviously know its coming but there is some kind of something that goes on in your mind when you realize your about to have a baby and hold it in your arms and life as you know it will never be the same!
It was a busy busy weekend in the Labor wing at the hospital! We had to wait to get into a room. We finally got in around 6:30. Baby's Heartbeat jumped up and stayed up. They had me on an IV right away. Apparently Baby's elevated heartbeat is a indication that Mom is going to have a infection. Not always but its a good sign. So every few minutes they checked my temperature. I had to lay on my side in order to try and calm baby. Every 30 - 45 minutes I had to flip from one side to the other. I've had to do this all 3 times now. Apparently my girls just don't like the labor process!!
Once we were in the room they started pitocin right away. Although it didn't really do anything for the first few hours. Finally around 11 pm once they were really up-ing the drip aggressively as often as they could it kicked in! Contractions started!! Before the pitocin started working I was sitting at a 3. At 11 I was still a 3. Finally at midnight I was at 5 and asked for the Epidural. The lovely epidural man was in a C-Section so I had to wait an hour before I could get it! At 1 am the epidural came and I had some relief but it didn't last long. I was at a 6 at this point.
By 2 am I was pretty uncomfortable. The epidural wasn't working at all in my left side. It was a strange and uncomfortable feeling through every contraction. At this point they were one on top of the other. I had a little relief when I was on my back instead of my side but that was such a brief time frame since her heartbeat was still elevated and I needed to be on my side.
The Nurse said she would call for the anesthesiologist to come back and check the Epidural. Before she did she checked me and I was 100 % ready to go. Fully effaced and 10 cm. She called the Doctor at 2:15 AM to come in for delivery. Thankfully he wasn't too far away.
They wouldn't let me do any practice pushes since my kids tend to come with just a few pushes. Fighting that natural urge to push is a tough thing let me tell you!
Finally at 2:30 AM the doctor arrived. Doctor Villa... what do you know the only other doctor I hadn't yet met. oh well!
Once everyone was properly dressed they said I could start pushing with the next contraction.
4 - 10 Second pushes and rest
3 - 10 Second pushes and Baby was here!
Just 3 hours and 40 Minutes after they got Labor to start Brooke Aliyah was born at 2:40 AM Sunday December 11, 2011.
She was so quiet at first but once they cleared her airways she gave out a beautiful little cry letting us know she was ok!
Adrian cut the umbilical cord and then they weighed her and took her measurements.
